Exploring movement, listening, creating in the moment

Every Monday, 7:30–9:30 pm
Centre de l’Attention Poétique · 29 rue Pastorelli · Nice

No previous experience is required. Curiosity and the desire to move are enough.

Dance improvisation opens a space to feel, to experiment and to create from the body.

Here there is no choreography to memorise and no “right” movement to reproduce. We start from what is present, so that new possibilities of movement and expression can appear.

A sensation, a change of rhythm, a support, a direction, a breath, a silence or the presence of another person can become the starting point of a dance.

A dance that is built in the present

Improvising does not mean moving at random. It means learning to listen to what is happening in the body and around us, and then making choices in the moment.

Where does my attention go? What triggers my movement? What happens if I slow down, if I change direction, if I let weight guide my body? How does my dance change when I meet another person in the space?

Through guided proposals, we explore different qualities of movement and gradually develop our capacity to perceive, choose, transform and compose.

Movement then becomes a field of experience and curiosity rather than a form to get right. There is no longer any need to know in advance what we are going to do: the dance is built from what appears, here and now.

Three paths of exploration

The body as a starting point

We all have habits: certain ways of walking, of holding ourselves, of moving, of beginning a gesture or of occupying space. Dance improvisation invites us to observe them, and then to discover what can appear when we take other paths.

We explore weight, supports, tone, breath, rhythms, directions, volumes, textures, gaze, space and stillness. These elements all become material to nourish and transform movement.

The aim is not to produce a “beautiful shape”, but to gradually widen your possibilities and discover your own bodily language.

Dancing from sensation

The class is nourished by somatic practices, which place perception and the experience of the body at the heart of movement.

Feeling a support, following an impulse, listening to your breath or noticing a change of tone all become starting points for dancing.

It is not about doing more, but about feeling differently in order to move differently, refining your presence and opening new possibilities.

Rediscovering the pleasure of moving and creating

In dance improvisation there is no “right movement” to find. A single proposal can give rise to an infinity of responses.

This freedom makes it possible to develop your creativity, to trust your sensations and to step out of your habits, without any search for performance.

Little by little, we become more available to the unexpected — and to what can emerge in the moment.

Dancing alone and with others

Dance improvisation is also an experience of relationship. We share a space, distances, rhythms, trajectories and attention.

How can I stay in my own dance while sensing the others? How can I meet, respond, propose or simply leave space?

The group then becomes a living material for composition, where every presence can transform the dance.

Every class is a new experience

No two sessions are alike.

Each class is built around a new line of exploration. The explorations are experienced alone, in pairs, in small groups or with all the participants together.

The proposals give a starting point, a frame for experimenting and the freedom to find your own answers.

We observe, we try, we listen, we choose, we transform.

Little by little, something takes shape.

The dance appears.

Who are the dance improvisation classes for?

For anyone curious to discover movement differently, to rediscover the pleasure of moving, to develop their creativity or to deepen their relationship with their body, with space and with others.

No previous technique is required. There is no need to be flexible, athletic or to have danced before.

People who already have a bodily or dance practice are just as welcome, to step out of their habits, enrich their vocabulary and explore new ways of composing.

There is no ideal body for improvising. There is your body, today, and what you can discover with it.

The teacher

Dancing with Sara Biglieri

A dancer, choreographer and certified Embodiment Coach, Sara Biglieri has developed an approach to movement at the crossroads of dance improvisation, somatic practices and bodily exploration.

Her work places the experience of the body, perception and presence at the centre of the practice. The body is not seen as a form to be made to fit a model, but as a space of sensations, possibilities and creation.

Through guided proposals, Sara supports each person in refining their listening, exploring new paths of movement and developing a more personal, free and creative dance.

Exploring rather than reproducing. Feeling rather than performing. Creating from what is here.
